Darrel Beachy Warbirds and Classics over Tasmania 20 Oct 24

The Warbirds and Classics Scale event was finally held on Sunday 20th October after 2 previous postponements. The sun was shining and the wind was favourable although from the south. There were 11 registered pilots, 16 flying models and 4 static models. The 20 models were made up of 7 warbirds and 13 classics.

Apart from the pilots there was also a good crowd of onlookers including representatives of Air Force Cadets No. 508 (City of Launceston) Squadron. The cadets attended with their CO Sqnldr (AAFC) Felix Buckley and were escorted in small groups to view the models up close and talk with the pilots.

The flying conditions were enjoyable and so was the BBQ which was also well attended.

As in previous years, we are grateful to Brian Green for judging the event and the results were as follows:

Best Classic Take-off and Landing      Dale Gray with RV4

Most Realistic Classic flight                Dale Gray with Extra 300

Best Warbird Take-off and Landing    Kevin Hay with P47 Razorback

Most Realistic Warbird Flight             Rodney Kreutzer with P47 Razorback

Darrel Beachy Trophy for Outstanding Model of the Day (Flying or Static) –   Pete Kidson with UH-72 Lakota Helicopter

I have attached some photos of the winning models courtesy of members Larry Harvey and Andrew McEntyre. There will be more photos on the website in the near future.

Thanks to all the members who helped with mowing, setup, marshaling, catering, photography and packing up. The day was most successful and enjoyable.

Cheers,Tony

Scale Day held March 12th 2023

The Scale Day Fly-In went ahead as scheduled with fine weather and little wind at the start. The wind did pick up mid-morning from the south with a bit of tricky turbulence. However, this did not phase the 9 participating pilots (13 models) with some great flying, free of mishap. At last count over 30 flights took place.

The trophy winners were as follows:

Best Take-Off: David Cook (PFL) with SBach
Best Landing: Rod Kreutzer (LMAC) with P47 Thunderbolt
Best Realism Flight: Rod Kreutzer (LMAC) with P47 Thunderbolt
Outstanding Scale Model over 7Kg: Vince Burling (LMAC) with F4U Corsair
Outstanding Scale Model under 7Kg: Phil Rayner (NWA) with Chipmunk

A most enjoyable day was experienced by all. Many thanks to the pilots for their participation and thanks to all the members who pitched in to ensure things ran smoothly.
